Should employee IDs be sequential?
Sequential IDs are easiest to manage but reveal headcount. Use random IDs if you prefer not to disclose company size.
What prefix should employee IDs use?
A department code prefix (e.g. ENG-, HR-, FIN-) lets you identify the employee's team from the ID alone. Use the Prefix field and generate a separate batch per department.
Can employee IDs be used for physical access control?
Yes — export IDs to CSV and import into your access control system (e.g. HID, Lenel, Genetec). The ID becomes the credential stored on the employee's badge or card.
